TSUNAMI POLICE BOAT MEMORIAL KHAO LAK
Nothing can bring home the sheer force and power of the 2004 Tsunami than seeing Police Boat 813 that was swept 2 kilometers inland and is still sitting in the exact same place now as a memorial.
The Police Boat along with another that sunk killing all on board was anchored about a kilometer out at sea. They were protecting members of the Royal Family who were holidaying in Khao Lak and King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s grandson Prince Khun Poom Jensen was jet skiing at the time and died when the Tsunami hit on December 26th.

Police Boat 813 and a small museum with photos and videos is opposite the Baan Niang Markets in Khao Lak.
