Khao Phra Thaeo National Park
Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is Phuket's last remaining virgin rain forest. Within the park are langurs, barking deer, mouse deer, monkeys and gibbons. We were not fortunate enough to see any of these animals, but you can hear them off in the distance. There are also approximately 100 species of birds inhabiting the forest.
There is a charge of 200 baht per person to enter the park, this helps with education and upkeep of the park .
If you are fit enough, do the 3 hour trek which goes through the park to Bang Pae waterfall you will need a guide and make sure you take water as it is extremely hot and humid.
The pathway for the hike is dark, narrow, very slippery in places, steep and in some areas, we also had to climb over fallen trees and this was just a small area as we did not do the whole trek. We really enjoyed the section we did do through the jungle and the views were amazing.
Tonsai Waterfall a small but pretty waterfall is just inside the western side of the National Park, the area is very well looked after and a popular local spot for picnics and photographers.
To go to Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, head north on Thepkasattri Road from Phuket City for about 20kms until you reach the intersection at Thalang, then turn right, you will see the signs for Tonsai waterfall.
